Spiritual Books are soul-nourishing works that will awaken your sleeping/hiding/recessive identity. When awakened, it depends on you if you would provide the key of this car, that is our body, to it (the newfound identity or Soul) or your ego fuelled mind, which you have been doing. I am sure you are here for you to know exactly how it went out.
Not all people need books to feel that awareness or make themselves available to awareness. Some do while others don’t. I feel, if you believe in Introverts and Extroverts, or if it’s safe to put it this way, Introverts do it easily as they tend to seek inside while extroverts need some time and help for they seek everything outside. That’s human beauty.
How else Spiritual Books help? The divine works if perfectly grasped will definitely help your life fill with wisdom and bliss. Spiritual Books are ways to understand that amazing process that has the ability of inner healing, awakening awareness, and knowledge.
There is nothing called spiritual life, it is this same life if someone chooses to live with a certain discipline. That person might be referred to as a spiritual person, for the way he leads his life. What extra do these people do? Nothing of rocket science. They simply become more organized, simple, and physically- their mind, body, and soul are tuned together. This is the basis of success, knowledge, and happiness.

His quest will lead him to riches far different—and far more satisfying—than he ever imagined. Santiago’s journey teaches us about the essential wisdom of listening to our hearts, of recognizing opportunity and learning to read the omens strewn along life’s path, and, most importantly, to follow our dreams.
Why both features together on the list of- Top Spiritual Books? Many readers had said this same thing and this caught my eye. I honestly didn’t feel any such, but based on readers as they could compare both together, I put them together too.
One user in Amazon review wrote- “Compared to this (The Monk who sold his Ferrari) “The Alchemist ” book was super good. The Alchemist book narration is like a story and you will get more interest.”
Phu… I leave it to the readers to decide. No fighting though!
4: If Truth Be Told: A Monk’s Memoir
An eighteen-year-old headed to Australia soon became a multimillionaire. He renunciate later and now is a Monk.
He practiced astrology, intense meditation, and tantra, yet God was nowhere in sight. He earned a lot as he says in the book, “What do I have to renunciate, as of now.” This is an astounding memoir of the making of spiritual life in today’s challenging and often confusing times. If Truth Be Told: A Monk’s Memoir will light up your path, wherever you are on your life’s journey.
A brilliant piece. I finished this in 2 days. I couldn’t do anything else, when I was not reading it. A must read.
3: Death; An Inside Story: A book for all those who shall die
Death is a taboo in most societies in the world. But what if we have got this completely wrong? What if death was not the catastrophe it is made out to be but an essential aspect of life, rife with spiritual possibilities for transcendence?
Sadhguru got everything covered in this piece- Guide to living well, Ghosts, Karma: its effect, Chakras, prediction of death, Suicide and untimely death, Cheating death, Transmigration, Samadhi, Mukti and Moksha, Shradh or Death rituals: Its importance, Re-Incarnation, Hijacking other’s body, and lastly Process and preparation to Death.
I would say Sadhguru has this as a slap to one for those who ask stupid questions to him.
An advanced guide to the Spiritual process of understanding beyond. To read this, at least you have to start or ignite the process or you may find it hard to grasp with your logical mind. By start, I mean at least believe in a few things other than our mind dictates.
2: Autobiography of a Yogi
Paramahansa Yogananda’s remarkable life story takes you on an unforgettable exploration of the world of saints and yogis, science and miracles, death and resurrection.
With soul-satisfying wisdom and endearing wit, he illuminates the deepest secrets of life and the universe — opening our hearts and minds to the joy, beauty, and unlimited spiritual potentials that exist in the lives of every human being. The author clearly explains the subtle but definite laws behind both ordinary events of everyday life and the extraordinary events commonly termed miracles. His absorbing life story thus becomes the background for a penetrating and unforgettable look at the ultimate mysteries of human existence.
An Eye-opener. A soul reigniting tale. A must-have a guide if you are in this field. Write to me, if you are not amazed and don’t see things differently from here on.
1: Bhagavad-gita As It Is (1972 edition)
The largest-selling edition of the Gita. It Is is more than a book. It is alive with knowledge and devotion; thus it has the power to change your life for the better.
Bhagavad-gita is knowledge of five basic truths and the relationship of each truth to the other: These five truths are God, the individual soul, the material world, action in this world, and time. The Gita lucidly explains the nature of consciousness, the self, and the universe. It is the essence of India’s spiritual wisdom, the answers to questions posed by philosophers for centuries. We all know the background of it, i.e., Mahabharata where Krishna brings His friend, Arjun from perplexity to spiritual enlightenment, and each one of us is invited to walk the same path.
The Mother of all spiritual books. Spirituality as a process starts from here. If you haven’t read it, you should, NOW! Why so? If you read this, you need not read anything else. It provides the Gyaan or Knowledge of everything which others provide in parts.
Wait! before you jump on any conclusions…
There are so many versions, don’t foolishly go for others. You may read my article on ISKCON Bangalore site (linked), why only this piece is the one should prefer?
Many people say this copy has the preaching of Krishna as this name comes multiple times. Actually, during the process of knowledge sharing with Arjuna, Krishna says “I” and here Prabhupada writes it as Krishna. Krishna says… Krishna does this… Krishna is this… which actually is Krishna saying as I. So the name appears multiple times.
Just a tip
To those, if you don’t like it, exclude it and read it as the one you prefer, Shiv, Ganesh, Hanuman, Ram or Mother Durga, Shakti, as you please. What’s in the name? Importantly, God is one, right? The thing is, do read this Spiritual Book, it’s for your Best!
If you still find it hard to digest it then go for the other ones. That should be more than enough.
One last tip, remember the way is to ignite the fire and let it burn. This means- give “yourself” the time. Hope you understand what “Yourself” I refer to here.
A few extra Spiritual books-

Adiyogi: The Source of Yoga
‘Shi-va’ is ‘that which is not’, a primordial emptiness; Shiva is also the first-ever yogi, Adiyogi, the one who first perceived this emptiness. Adiyogi is symbol and myth, historic figure and living presence, creator and destroyer, outlaw and ascetic, cosmic dancer and passionate lover, all at once. A book like no other, this extraordinary document is a tribute to Shiva, the Adiyogi. Here science and philosophy merge seamlessly, so do silence and sound, question and answer-to capture the unspeakable enigma of Adiyogi in a spellbinding wave of words and ideas that will leave one entranced, transformed.
I haven’t read all of the books. But based on how many I have had the opportunity, I prepared the list. Feel free to let me know if I have missed any great Spiritual books that should make up any list.
