People around the globe are in a race with the Coronavirus or covid-19 – Who can make it spread faster?
While the Novel Coronavirus or Covid-19 is spreading itself but the People are up with spreading the myths. It seems the people are winning the race over the Coronavirus, as of now. They are spreading the myths faster than the virus is.
Apart from these top 20 myth busters, if you are stuck confused on any, don’t worry! Here is a link, follow it and bust any viral news. Be the Myth Buster for yourself! Try it Now…
But, here are the most spread 20 coronavirus myths that are equal, if not more, contagious than the COVID-19 virus. Have a look. I hope this will clear yours too. Share and spread awareness not the myths or rumors…
1: Is Ibuprofen bad for COVID-19. Should I use Tylenol instead?
No. This is false. No studies are proving this reckless opinion.
2: Can Coronavirus mutate and become airborne?
No. Even when viruses mutate, their mode of transmission does not change. Influenza virus has mutated many times, but it remains a droplet infection.
3: Can my pet catch COVID-19? Can I catch Coronavirus from my pet?
Extremely unlikely. CDC hasn’t received any reports of pets becoming sick with coronavirus. But good hand hygiene and common sense must prevail.
4: My coworker’s dad developed COVID-19. Am I at risk?
No. If you’re exposed to someone who was exposed to someone with COVID, you’re fine. CDC recommends no testing on family members of those who were exposed to a COVID patient
5: Does garlic cure COVID-19? Bananas? Vitamin-C?
Bananas are a fine fruit and garlic is a fine vegetable. But no. There are no clinical trials to suggest they have anti-coronavirus activity. Vitamin-C Is not even a fruit or a vegetable!
6: I’m tired of staying home. Is it risky to go out for a run?
Go. Run. Jog. Laugh. Just don’t do it with loads of people. Our air isn’t contaminated with coronavirus.
7: I just developed a sore throat and a runny nose. Is it COVID? Should I go to the hospital?
Don’t know. But chances are you may have a seasonal virus (Flu, RSV, Rhinovirus, etc.). Stay home. Hospitals won’t do a test and you’ll likely wait in the ED for hours.
8: I’ve heard that coronavirus thrives in cold sinuses. So if you blow-dry your nose with warm air, it kills the virus. True?
False! Please don’t. Our nose carries bacteria, as part of normal flora. Those bacteria may get confused:)
9: Do you develop immunity after getting COVID-19?
We will know for sure in 2021. But if you put a gun next to my head and forced me to make a choice, I’d say YES. Infected people will likely develop immunity. Not sure how long will the immunity last for…
10: Why is the virus infecting celebrities?
Because COVID-19 doesn’t discriminate. Coronavirus doesn’t ask if you’re white or black, Republican or Democrat, native or immigrant, rich or poor. It only asks: Are you human?
11: Will summers make the virus less contagious? or Coronavirus will go away in Sumer months.
Wrong. Rising temperatures across India have stirred hopes that the changing weather would slow down the spread of COVID-19. But researchers warn there is little evidence to back such views.
Previous pandemics didn’t follow weather patterns plus as we enter summer, there will be winter in the Southern Hemisphere. The virus is global.
12: In summer, the virus will spread more due to mosquito bites.
Wrong. This infection is spread via respiratory droplets, not blood. Mosquitos don’t increase the spread.
13: If you can hold your breath for ten seconds without discomfort, you don’t have COVID.
Wrong: Most young patients with Coronavirus will be able to hold their breaths for much longer than 10 seconds. And many elderly without the virus won’t be able to do it.
14: Since COVID testing is unavailable, we should donate blood. The blood bank will test for it.
No blood bank is testing for Coronavirus so this attempt will fail. Blood donation is a sacred exercise; let’s make sure we are motivated by the right reasons.
15: Coronavirus lives in the throat. So drink lots of water so the virus is pushed into the stomach where the acid will kill it.
The virus may gain entry via throat but it penetrates the host cells. You can’t wash it away. Excessive water will make you run to the toilet.
16: All this social distancing is an overreaction. You’ll see that the virus won’t cause much damage.
If we don’t see many infections (I hope) it actually will prove that social distancing worked. Not that the virus was never a big deal.
17: Car accidents kill 30,000 people annually. What’s the big deal with COVID-19?
A car accident is not contagious, their fatalities don’t double every three days, they don’t cause mass panic or a market crash.
18: Hand sanitizers are better than soap and water?
Wrong. Soap and water actually kill and washes away the virus from the skin (it can not penetrate our skin cells) plus it also cleans visible soiling if hands. Don’t worry if sanitizers were sold out at your supermarket.
19: One of the best strategies to prevent COVID-19 is to clean every doorknob in your home with disinfectants.
Wrong. Hand washing/maintaining 6ft distance is best practice. Unless you’re caring for a COVID patient at home, your home surfaces should not be a big risk.
20: COVID-19 was deliberately spread by (depending upon your politics) the American or Chinese military?
False.
That’s why – while honestly acknowledging our differences – we must unite. Band together, people. Let’s follow the scientific evidence and win this war against coronavirus. See you on the other side of this pandemic!
Be well. Be kind. Have faith. Don’t Panic. This too shall pass.
